A downtrodden person, in this case a submissive, will only harm themselves by causing issues. Things will become worse, you'll get in trouble, and your will to live won't mean anything in light of whatever punishments they give out.

People in dominant positions have more leeway and thus more space to work around the limits and change them.

Make your own purpose. I don't really care what it is, but do it. Don't rely on others for a purpose. That's just pointless.
